Canterbury fans shocked

By Robert Williamson

Canterbury fans where shocked when they lost the Ranfurly shield to the Southland rugby team at AMI stadium,on Thursday 22nd October 2009
Christchurch. With the final score at nine to three the whistle blew for full time Southland fans started to celebrate straight away.

Canterbury fans didn’t see this coming because Southland hasn’t held the shield for fifty years. Steven Bret was not up to 100% missing two penalties and a field goal.
Southland can’t believe they finally got the shield; celebrations will probably carried on well into the night.

The Canterbury team had lost most of its All Blacks because they were all overseas. Even though the All Blacks were gone no-one expected Southland to win, not even Southland fans! Some Canterbury fans are happy for Southland because they probably won’t hold the shield for another 50 years.
